RAID Recovery & Repair Process

If you have experienced a failed RAID, STOP!! what your thinking of doing.
Any action on the failed RAID array could degrade the array even further

The First step to Raid Data Recovery is to Protect the original individual drives and your Data from further damage to the RAID ARRAY.

  • Duplicate each drive of the Raid Array to a safe location
Use Professional Hard Drive Recovery Cloning software for Raid Array drives
Once you have an decent duplicate of each drive, you can now recover your DATA without fear of further damaging the degraded RAID. Now it's time to have Fun!!
  1. Copy the partition table of the array to a temp location,
usually sector 63 of the 1st drive of the array, if not you may have to search for it using the identifiying structure of a standard partition table
Hex Value of "55 AA" at the end of the Partition Sector (Byte 511 & 512).
  2. Next replace any defective drive (Bad Sectors, Dead Drive etc...) and put a duplicate of as much of the original hard drive as possible to a good working drive of the same or greater size
  3. You are now ready to re-initialize the Broken Raid Array.
  4. Re-initializing the Raid Array will restore all the file structure as it was before the RAID Failure
The only differance is the Partition table will be wiped out.
  5. Just replace the Partition table with the Original good one and you should have Recovered the Lost Data on the Failed and degraded Raid Array
Possible Complications

Even if the Failed Raid doesn't boot, you can use common Data Recovery Software on the re-initialized Raid Array to recover your data.
